In a recent conversation with a friend we confided with each other how much our companies have grown in the last couple of years – despite the economic doom and gloom!
My friend shared with me that she often feel uncomfortable revealing how successful she’s been over the last couple of years while so many professionals have a hard time getting just a few good clients to make ends meet.
I thought she was right; often I feel the same way. Then I realized that my friend, myself, and many of my clients who are growing their businesses fast right now are following a specific formula that works!
1. We become rebels, thought leaders, and evangelists
for our message. And we are definitely not shy about
expressing our (often controversial) opinions!
My Tip : Have and share your opinions! Stand for something! Over the past decade I’ve been often wrong about the things I’ve expressed my opinions about. Sometimes I have been right. But the fact that I keep sharing my opinions continues to make me visible to my clients, builds my authority, and generates millions in new sales every year!
You have to realize that today we live in “Recommendation Age” and people want to be lead and told what to do and how to do it. Just giving information is no longer enough. Still no convinced? Just look at the most popular blogs – do they just share news, or do the share opinions?
2. We develop our own “Intellectual Capital” by
documenting and packaging our ideas and skills
into products, trainings, systems, tools, etc.
My Tip : Create your own info products now! With current bridge-line technology it’s as simple as making a call and answering a handful of questions your prospects and clients ask you most often.
It’s mind boggling to me that so many professional follow big gurus and invest in their products, but don’t get a clue that they should be doing the same! 3. We separate ourselves from the traditional “Time
Economy” – selling time for money – and create

compensated based on our contribution to our
clients or their companies.
My Tip : Stop selling process and start selling VALUE! Time is what you use to perform a process or task. But what matters to your customers is the ultimate result that task or process generates for them. And your compensation should be based on the value of that result – not the time it took to create it!
If you want to charge higher fees (and get it) than get really clear what problems you are solving for your customers and talk about all your programs, products, and services ONLY in terms of value they provide to your customers. You will be amazed by the results!
